MESSAGE
TO THE ROTARACTORS
President Kheh, Past Presidents and Members of the Rotaract Club of
Johor Bahru, it gives me great pleasure in writing this message for your quarterly magazine.
Rotaractor Elango has been reminding me to write this message but
as you all may very well know I have been busy having just returned from Mindanao, Philippines. Five of the Rotarians from your Sponsoring Rotary Club namely yours
truly, IPP Leong Chee Woh, Rtn. Ng Swee Poh, Rtn. Jason Tan and Rtn. Dr. Angamuthu went to visit the Rotary Club of Marbel,
Koronadal City. Rtn. Dr. Anga
has been doing yeoman service in true Rotary spirit in doing Cleft Lip, Cleft Palate and other reconstructive surgery at the
Our Lady of Lourdes Private Hospital in Koronadal City, under very primitive and challenging conditions for the past 5 years.
The past four years he has been going on his own, carrying his surgical instruments at his own expense! This year I thought
it fit that we give him moral support all the way. We were treated very well; in fact their fellowship is superb. Apart from
the Plastic Surgery project we also were involved in Deworming and Hepatitis B immunization in a village, which had no piped
water or electricity, and this village was only about 2km from the city! We witnessed too their dedication of 3 Classrooms
for special children as their Centennial project. This trip was certainly an eye opener for all of us. It is visits like this
that I suppose, we as Rotarians and Rotaractors enrich ourselves with knowledge and see how others do service.
This week I was in the thick of The Joint Medical Camp that we jointly
organized with RC Pasir Gudang, Puteri Specialist Hospital, Hospital Sultanah Aminah and Kementerian Kesihatan which went off successfully today,
as I write this message. I was happy to see our Rotaractors there.
What
I wish to convey to you Rotaractors, is that SERVICE is our game; whichever way we do it, here or overseas. We are therefore
PARTNERS IN SERVICE and complement services together. As President of your Sponsoring Rotary Club, let me tell you that you
and your activities are close to my heart and I wish to see more interaction between our Clubs.
Finally,
keep up the excellent work so far and the good quality of your Quarterly Bulletin that I had the privilege to see and read.
To me Service never stops and has to go on. so keep trucking on, on the bandwagon of Service.
With
Best Wishes,
Yours
Rotarily,
S. Shanmugam,
Rotary Club of Johor Bahru
